An Unintentional Break

I wrote it on Instagram this weekend but I feel like it's worth mentioning here, too. I'm admitting it. My blog has been neglected.

There were times when I would write at least four posts a week. Lately, I've been lucky if I write only one or two. Basically, I took an unintentional blog break and it was exactly what I needed. I missed blogging and realized I don't want to stop any time soon.

Blog world is kind of a weird place. Things are constantly changing, bloggers are always coming and going, there are always new things to learn. When I started blogging four years ago, the game was entirely different. For those who were around then, do you remember that we used to put other blogs we loved to read on our sidebar... without being paid for it? They weren't called ads then, we just wanted to promote other bloggers. Well, times have changed. Pretty much every aspect of blogging is about making money these days. That's not a problem, I just feel like I've lost sight of what I loved about blogging and the blogging community and have been constantly comparing my blog to others and holding myself to a crazy high standard.

This little break showed me that I do love what I do, I love the friends I've met and the opportunities I've had just because of this little blog of mine. I like making a little extra money on the side, but overall, I do this for myself. To document my life and my adventures, and if I can share how amazing Memphis is to the world in the process, well then that's what I'll do.

So, Ten Feet Off Beale readers, don't worry, I'm not going anywhere any time soon.

  1. Once again you have read my mind. I am one of the new bloggers you refer to and I am 100% on board with you. I literally have an unpublished post entitled Bloggers: Are We Losing Sight. I hate to say it, but I really dislike how everything is about personal growth through payment and always feeling like you need to gain those page views and followers in order to stay relevant. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way considering I only just began blogging 7 months ago. Stay true to you and sometimes that means stepping away.
