Motivation

Ok, as many of you already know, I'm trying to get better at running. I have never in my entire life been able to run long distances. I get extremely winded and my legs hurt. I know that all I need to do is whip myself into shape and build up my endurance but it's so difficult sometimes.

I need motivation.

Here's my plan. I am going to update my blog weekly with how many total miles I've run that week. It's not going to be many at the beginning since I can pretty much only run a half mile outside without feeling like I'm going to collapse. However, I think that if I do this I will have accountability, and I won't slack off (like I sort of maybe tend to do).

I also need your help. Any tips or words or encouragement you can offer me will help me immensely!

  1. I totally need to do something like this. I have an audition for a dance company in a month and I haven't been able to run or dance because I have sitiches in my back. I get those out today though and then it's game on for getting in shape. Running is one of the most effective ways to get in shape but it's so boring to me and I suck at it. I'll post my milage each week too if it helps your motivation at all :) I know it would help me!

  2. Best tip I read (in Run Your Butt Off!) is that initial jog should be VERY slow, barely more than a fast walk. If you start to feel winded, slow down. As you build endurance, you'll naturally go faster. Good luck!

  4. Woo hoo! You are AWESOME!
I HATED running but I signed up for a 10k to get my rear and gear and start training! I hated it at first, but by the time I ran the race? It felt AMAZING to run. At the time I wouldn't have said that I loved it, it was just empowering to know that I could run. I could run far.
Then I hurt my knee during the race and I had to take a few months off. I'm back to square one. A mile and a half kills me. And I hate running. But I know I want that sense of power back so I'm going to keep running!
