I Have A Dream

Ten Feet Off Beale - Lorraine Motel

Even though I'm one of the few people who have to work today, I'm taking a moment to remember why we have this day in January. It's because of Martin Luther King Jr. His death had a great impact on our entire country, and especially the city of Memphis. It was here that he was assassinated in1968 at the Lorraine Motel.

Today, you will find the National Civil Rights Museum at this location and the entire side of the building looking exactly as it did in 1968.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Memphis (or if you live here) I definitely recommend the Civil Rights Museum. It's been a few years since I've been there, but I still remember being awed and learning so much about a very important part of our American history.

  1. So sad that it had to happen in Tennessee- -the southern state that embraced the changes more than any other southern state in the Civil Rights era. And even beyond-- Tennessee left the Confederacy & rejoined the Union before the Civil War even ended. Such a tragedy to lose such a leader in such a state.

  2. I like to visit or just walk by when I am downtown because it really is a great reminder of how far we have come, and how far we have to go!

    Thanks for the great post!
    Newest follower/fellow Memphis blogger,
