There's an alley located on South Main Street (my favorite part of town and our new neighborhood). It's pretty much just an empty lot between two businesses. A lot that used to house a building. In fact, the tile floor is still there surrounded by grass. It is lovingly referred to as the "ghost lot" (it's right next to Ernestine & Hazel's). This month this lot is being used for movie night.
During the month of October, the South Main Association along with Douglas & Associates and Downtown Memphis Commission are inviting everyone out to the "ghost lot" on Thursday evenings to watch a movie. Everyone is encouraged to bring chairs, dinner, blankets, a cooler, anything you want and just enjoy the nice weather and a good movie.
This past Thursday, we walked over to see what this was all about. They were showing Walk the Line, a movie that is extra special to Memphians. Not only did Johnny Cash get his break in Memphis and live here, but parts of the movie were filmed here! At one point in the movie we actually could see the exact lot we were sitting in behind the actors! Talk about awesome.
If you're anyyywhere in Memphis I absolutely suggest coming down to the South Main District and watching a movie on Thursday night. This week you can see Ghostbusters, and next week they will be showing Beetlejuice. Both such great October movies!! Grab some BBQ and some friends and come watch some fun movies.
More information can be found here.
PS. If it rains, they will still be showing the movie at the Farmer's Market Pavilion.
I think this is so neat! I'm excited that they are re opening our local drive in haha
