Share a Coke with New Parents

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ShareYourSummer #CollectiveBias

Please tell me I am not the only one who walks a little bit slower past the Coke displays these days. Whether you like to admit it or not, it's pretty exciting to sip on a refreshing Coke that has your name written all over it... literally.

Well, recently, while walking by large bin of personalized Coke at Walmart, I spotted upon a "Kevin" and a "Virginia". It just so happens that those are the names of my brother-in-law and sister-in-law who are expecting their second baby this summer! How could I just leave those Cokes lying there? I couldn't. In addition to the 20 oz bottles, I grabbed a few extra items for them, because this time isn't all about the baby (even though I can't wait to meet our newest nephew!!). It's about them, too.

I picked up everything they would need to have delicious Coke floats together... with a few snacks.

Overall, it was an easy gift to put together for some expecting parents. This would also make a great gift for just about anyone. I just love these personalized Coke bottles! Can't find the name you want? Don't worry,  Coke has thought of that. You can have bottles personalized just for you.

So, who would you like to Share a Coke with this summer? I want to hear your ideas!!

Here is a list of Walmart stores where you can find a large quantity of personalized Coca Cola bottles to share with someone this Summer! If your store is not on the list you can still find these bottles at all Walmart locations. http://cbi.as/cjxc

Roundhouse Revival

There's an incredible old arena in Memphis where the Beatles, Elvis, and many other legends performed. It was also the sight of some classic wrestling and the original home of the RiverKings.

I'm talking about the Mid-South Coliseum.

[Side Note: Did you know I came to Memphis to work for them?? Yep! Without the RiverKings I wouldn't be here.]

Today, the Coliseum sits empty and has become slightly run down. There has been buzz around Memphis that this historic, and in my opinion beautiful, building will be knocked down. Leave it to Memphians to not let this happen quietly.

This past Saturday, passionate Memphians gathered around the Mid-South Coliseum, otherwise known as the Roundhouse, for a Roundhouse Revival. There were food trucks, local artists, and even some wrestling featuring Jerry "the King" Lawler.

Many people want the Coliseum to become the Wrestling Hall of Fame, others have expressed interest in turning it into an open air pavilion. Whatever it becomes, I hope it stays standing so future Memphians can experience this classic venue and appreciate a historic piece of Memphis.

Must Eat Memphis - Jerry's Sno Cones

All you have to do is mention Jerry's Sno Cones and my mouth starts to water. Jerry's is a Memphis staple and the best treat for a hot day... or a rainy day... or pretty much any day. People wait in crazy long lines for this refreshing sno cone made supreme. That means, with ice cream. Yes, it sounds strange, but trust me, it. is. amazing.

There are so so sooo many flavors and over the years I've been able to try several different ones! I think my favorite is still the Wedding Cake, made supreme, of course. Memphians, what is your favorite flavor?

Recently, we drove out to Jerry's and we did something we have never done before. Jeremy ordered a burger from Jerry's. We have only ever ordered sno cones but I have a feeling there will be more burgers ordered in the future. Jeremy cannot stop talking about how good it was! Have you ever ordered food from Jerry's?

The trick to avoid lines? Go when it's raining. Just don't forget to bring an umbrella.

Here's the post I wrote about my first visit to Jerry's!

Urban Barn Market

This weekend we went to an awesome event... the Urban Barn Market. It was held at the historic Woodruff-Fontaine House in Victorian Village and, as one person described, it was like Pinterest threw up... in a very good way.

Basically the front yard, backyard, and backyard barn of the gorgeous historic house were full of nothing but gorgeous (and amazingly rusty) vintage items and locally handmade goods. The event is a three day event but we spent our Saturday moseying through the tents and listening to some live music.

Good news!! They will be having another market this Fall from October 2rd to 4th. I highly suggest going!!

Living Downtown: Our Most Frequently Asked Question

When people hear that we live in Downtown Memphis, nine times out of ten we are asked one question:

"Where do you do your grocery shopping?"

It's true, there are no major grocery stores in the heart of Downtown Memphis, however, there are several stores nearby as well as places to stop into when you need some basic essentials.

We do our major grocery shopping at the Kroger located on Union (the one across from Idlewild Presbytarian Church). We have to get in the car to go there, but it's only about a ten minute drive. This is definitely not the nicest Kroger in Memphis. It's small and rather old, but they are in the process of building a brand new one right next door. It will be so nice when that's complete.

We've also been known to do some shopping at the closest Walmart, which is in Arkansas. Getting on the highway to do some shopping makes it seem very far away, however, it's only about a 15 minute drive. We go here verrrry infrequently, it's good though to know that it's there, and not that far away.

Typically, we find ourselves near a Kroger (there are so many scattered around the area) when we need a gallon of milk or some bread, but there are a few places actually in the heart of Downtown where you can get these things.. without having to drive. There's a Walgreens on Main Street as well as the City Market that have very basic grocery necessities. Also, coming soon, the new Stock & Belle will have a General Store area where they plan on providing these types of essential groceries in the South Main Street area.

There you have it. Yes, we live downtown, but we are definitely not cut off from things like grocery stores. I'm sure there are other Downtowners who have their routines and favorite stores, these places seem to work for us!

3 Ways to Grit & Grind With Growl Towels

Memphis is without a doubt a basketball town. Residents of Memphis stand behind the Grizzlies and are extremely passionate about them...  especially during playoffs. Everywhere you go you'll see 'Go Grizz' signs, fans wearing shirts, and you definitely see Growl Towels.

For those not in Memphis, a Growl Towel is to Memphians what rally towels are to everyone else. (but growl towels are way cooler I think haha)

When you attend a home game during playoffs, you receive a Growl Towel to wave and cheer on the Grizzlies. When the game is over, what are you supposed to do with these towels?

Here are a few suggestions:

1 >> Decorate your office - You should absolutely Grit and Grind (aka be a huge Grizzlies fan) outside the Grindhouse (aka the FedEx Forum)... especially at work. You might as well use these yellow towels to brighten up your office or cube.

2 >> Decorate your pet - Our four legged friends can Grit and Grind, too! Harrison (pictured above) loves the Grizzlies, especially Bark Gasol (aka Marc Gasol.... yes, I went there).

3 >> Give them to a fan of the opposing team to wipe their tears - just kidding... but seriously, I guess we could send a few to Golden State.

I've also seen people get extremely crafty with their Growl Towels. If you collect enough, you could make a blanket, or even sew two together and make a throw pillows! There was even a guy at a game wearing Growl Towel pants. Yes, pants. The possibilities are endless, but the essential thing is that it's definitely possible to Grit & Grind everywhere you go, and you should.

Go Grizzlies!!
