The Artist

I know it's been a while since The Artist won the Best Picture Academy Award, but we finally got around to seeing it. It's on my bucket list to watch all Academy Award best picture winners. Clearly, I have a long way to go, but, I'm glad we watched this!

It is definitely different from any movie I have ever seen. First off, the entire film was in black and white. Not only that but it's also a silent film. Silent as in the actors use very dramatic facial features and randomly there will be screen shots with some dialogue. Not many, I might add.

What I thought was really great about it was that even though there was no speaking, and hardly any dialogue, we were able to easily follow the story line. It was funny and it was serious and you picked up on everything.

I also loved the era, the clothes, the decor, the cars, I loved the way the film grasped the late 20s and early 30s.

I probably wouldn't watch this movie again, but I enjoyed it and recommend it! If you have a night with no distractions, I'd say watch it. You definitely need to be paying attention though, since there's no speaking and all.

Have you seen it?
What did you think?

Movie Review - Limitless

This weekend, the boy and I rented Limitless starring Bradley Cooper. Without giving away too much, it honestly wasn't my favorite! I think I went into it thinking I'd like it better. Something I did like though was that finally a movie with a completely new plot, something I had never seen before. Oh, I also liked that Bradley Cooper was in it - I like him.

I can appreciate that it was a good movie there were just some parts of the story I didn't necessarily like. *Spoiler - STOP reading if you don't want to know too much* I didn't like that his girlfriend dumped him when he was struggling to write his book but liked him again when he was all rich and famous.. she should have stuck by him. I also didn't like that it made it seem like you needed to use the super drug to get out of sticky situations. Like when the girl was being chased in the park. She needed to take the pill to figure out how to escape without being hurt. I guess the moral of the story was that you didn't need to take the drug to succeed but there was really nothing throughout the entire thing that made you think that.

Overall, I'm glad I watched it, although I probably wouldn't watch it again. I also wouldn't tell anybody not to see it.

There you have it, my completely honest opinion!
