Ride the Trolley

Ten Feet Off Beale - Memphis Trolley

One of my favorite things about Downtown Memphis is the trolley. It's convenient, cheap, not to mention, picturesque. I'll be honest, I don't actually ride the trolley very often. I've always been too afraid to hop on by myself and look like I don't know what I'm doing. Since it was so so cold this weekend, we decided to ride the trolley with my parents. I couldn't believe how easy it was!! I always forget that.

It only costs $1 and it's important to remember to bring your dollar bills. You cannot get change.

We knew what street we needed to get off at so all we did was tell the driver where we were going and he stopped for us, even though there was no station at that intersection. How nice is that!? If you are riding the trolley and realize you need to get off, all you have to do is pull the string and it alerts the driver. I mean, can it get any easier?

So, not only is it the easiest form of transporation I've ever used, it's also the prettiest. I don't know how old the trolleys are, but I will say, you feel like you step back in time. While the seats may not be the most comfortable, you can tell they've been there forever.

I'll definitely be using the trolley much more often now that I've had some practice.

PS. I cheated. The first picture is not from this weekend, it's from the fall when the weather was still nice and the leaves still on the trees. Shh.

  1. I worked on Main for a year an NEVER took the trolley. I had the fear of looking like I didn't know what I was doing, too! Love your pictures.

  3. I love the trolleys.. LOVE. I remember when they were renovating the trolley line and bringing it up Madison while I was in college. I was jealous b/c it wouldn't be completed til after I graduated and couldn't utilize the awesomeness for heading downtown to go out.
