The Long Trip to NOLA

A few weekends ago, Jeremy and I were able to get away for a quick weekend trip to New Orleans. It was my first time there and I absolutely loved it! The city, the food, the history, everything completely blew me away and we had the best time exploring and discovering new things.

Our first day there, we decided to take the streetcar over to the Garden District. It's an area of town a few minutes outside of downtown and the French Quarter. There are just blocks and blocks of gorgeous old houses and the cutest little section of Magazine Street full of shops and resteraunts. We had the best time strolling along Magazine stopping into stores and, of course, leave it to us to find some amazing donuts. We loved District Donuts so much that we came back here on our way out of town on Sunday!

The trees all have Mardis Gras beads stuck in them!! I thought it was awesome.

The next day, we spent our time in the French Quarter. I found a free walking tour online that we followed. It was a great way to see a large portion of the French Quarter and also a way to learn what all the gorgeous buildings were that would have otherwise just walked by. I thought the French Quarter was just beautiful! I kept saying that I felt like I was in Europe. Buildings are pretty old in Memphis, not this old, though! It was amazing.

Of course, we ate beignets at Cafe du Monde, but the restaurant that really stands out in my mind is Napoleon House. We liked it so much that we went there twice in one weekend! The house that the restaurant is in was built for Napoleon Bonaparte to live in while he was in exile. Unfortunately, he died before he ever made it there, but, for some reason, the name stuck! It's a gorgeous restaurant with a courtyard and seriously amazing food.

We also really enjoyed our dinner at Evangeline. They also have an amazing courtyard to just hang out and enjoy a delicious New Orleans meal.

So, to sum it up, I loved New Orleans!! I would absolutely go back. I know there is more to explore and ton more restaurants to try :)
