Get Lost in a Bookshop

Ten Feet Off Beale - Get Lost in a Bookshop

We stumbled upon the most adorable little used bookshop in midtown Memphis. It was picturesque and smelled like old books. I could spend all day browsing the random and incredibly interesting titles they have among their chalkboard covered shelves. Down the main aisle there are vintage typewriters guarding rows of books with a cozy chair waiting to be occupied at the end of each row.

I remember being a young kid and thinking that even if I read one book every single day I would never be able to even skim the surface of the vast amount of books that have been written. It will never be possible to read every story. This is where my love of reading began, I have devoured book after book for as long as I can remember. I have learned so many amazing things from pages of books.

I can only imagine the amazing things you can find in this bookshop.

"Second hand books are wild books, homeless books; they have come together in vast flocks of variegated feather, and have a charm which the domesticated volumes of the library lack."
Virginia Woolf

  3. isn't it amazing how the smell of books (especially old books) just brings you in? and i see you spotted nancy drew! i have every book in the series and read them as a kid over and over. because of her, i was pretty sure i was going to be a detective. until i discovered how romanticized the drew books had made the field seem, lol.

  6. One of my most favorite things to do!! (and get lost in the book section at the thrift store :) I love looking through used books. And it's funny because I hated reading when I was younger but now I'm always reading 2 or 3 at a time, most of them second-hand.

ps- I just realized that I wasn't following your blog! How terrible of me! But rest assured, I resolved that today :)

  7. NANCY DREW!!!
that picture gets me excited. I LOVED Nancy Drew when I was younger - I mean, I still do, but now I just don't have time to read all about her sleuthing adventures. curse you real life.

  8. I love bookshops but I love second hand bookshops even more. I think it's because it smells like a library.
And guess what... I used to have that Nancy Drew book when I was a little girl! I smiled as soon as I saw that photo :)
